Storyline

The Boy Shaman follows Gegeene, a young Mongolian shaman caught between the demands of a fast-paced modern life and the ancient responsibilities of his spiritual calling. For the past decade, he’s carried the weight of hosting a thousand-year-old spirit, all while trying to live the life of an ordinary teenager.

Some days mean school, video games, and time with friends. Other days mean fire rituals, trance states, and channeling the ancient spirit within him. As Gegeene prepares for university, he also steps deeper into his responsibilities within Gerliin Urguu, one of Mongolia’s most respected shamanic guilds.

The Boy Shaman is more than a portrait of a young man’s spiritual journey. It’s a reflection of a wider generational challenge: how to carry cultural traditions forward in the face of a rapidly modernizing world. Through Gegeene’s story, we see that tradition survives not just through memory, but through practice.
